This strain produces ales with a full chewy malt flavor and character, but finishes dry, producing famously balanced beers. Expect moderate nutty and stone-fruit esters.  Best used for the production of cask-conditioned bitters, ESB and mild ales. Reliably flocculent, producing bright beer without filtration.

West Yorkshire is one of my favorite strains for high gravity and English styles, especially Barleywine and any Stout that is going to go through oak aging.

It tends to finish with a slightly tannic, slightly acidic characteristic that melds beautifully with oak flavors and characteristics.  Keep in mind that this strain is a notoriously low attenuator, especially with higher gravity beers, but the sacrifice is totally worth it.  It clears up like you’d expect from a high flocculating English strain, another characteristic that makes it perfect for barrel aging, and the profile is ideal for lower gravity beers, too.
