Ok, so I have no proof of this, but I’m pretty sure that Warrior was always the game changer that made Ballast Point’s Sculpin such a successful and delicious beer. I’ve used this in tons of IPAs (and a few other beers, for science), and there is a very unique spicy sharpness in the bitter of this hop anywhere from 45 minutes down to the whirlpool. It really brings together beers that are heavy with hops like Azacca and Simcoe, and I absolutely love it. If I’m going West Coast, I’m typically using Warrior for my bittering additions.
Usage
Super high AA's and low cohumulone make Warrior hops shine as a bittering hop in any beer style. It's distinctly spicy 'bite' in the bittering addition add a wonderful counterpoint to both hoppy beer styles and lighter, crisper styles. Warrior is becoming more widely used as a flavor and aroma hop, but due to it's valuable bittering qualities, it's more often used in that capacity.
Aroma and Flavor
Expect a clean and distinctly spicy bittering profile from Warrior hops. In late additions, more distinct spice characteristics and subtle citrus qualities come through, blending well in fruit forward IPAs and Pale Ales.
