Sage Leaf 2 oz
2 oz package of rubbed (ground) Sage Leaf (Salvia officinalis).
This is your typical, garden variety herbal Sage, not to be confused with Sage Brush (Artemesia spp.). When preparing the dried sage, it is rubbed over and through screens, which pulverize the leaf into smaller, fluffy pieces that are bursting with aroma and flavor. Sage gives you a powerful herbal, earthy, pine-wood characteristic.
Directions for Use
Add 0.5 - 2 oz per 5 gallon batch to add intense earth, pine and wood characteristics into any homebrew, wine, mead, cider or kombucha. For beer, you can use Sage as a bittering agent, much like Dried Heather Tips. Simply add at 5 minutes left in the boil at a rate of 2 oz per 5 gallons. The longer you boil, the more bitterness and astringency you will get.
You can also make an ethanol tincture to get more aroma and flavor. Simply steep in a clean spirit (like clean vodka) for 5 - 7 days and add slowly at packaging until the flavor profile is where you want it.
