Formerly known as Equinox and HBC 366, Ekuanot was an attempt to keep Warrior's high AA content, gain some of the better traits of it's wild father variety, and coax a better yield out of the crop. Released in 2014, Ekuanot was the product of 13 years of experimentation and monitoring.
Ekuanot has a complex and unique character, making it an ideal variety for single hop beers, bittering additions with a pithy, green chile kick, and sweet, tropical fruit characters in late and dry hop additions. This variety is ideal for S.M.A.S.H beers, and for pushing forward the fruity aromatics of other hop varieties. Cryohops are extremely concentrated, with the majority of the bract (plant material or vegetal material in a hop bine) removed, so use 1 oz of Cryohops for every 2 oz of T90 Pellet Hops.
Aroma and Flavor
Expect complex arrays of pithy orange, lemon-lime, and tropical fruit with distinct hints of papayas and berries. In dry hop additions, Ekuanot lends a distinctly sweet-mid palate flavor that can enhance fruity characteristics and even lean towards hints of herbal notes, woody cedar, and subtle, fresh cut hay.

Possible Substitutes for Ekuanot
Ekuanot is another truly unique hop, and as such there is no real substitute. There may be a blend that comes close, perhaps involving Mosaic, El Dorado and a tropical forward New Zealand variety, but testing is still in progress.
