Cashmere is a newer hop variety developed at Washington State University by crossing Cascade and Northern Brewer.Â Released in 2013,Â this newer hop variety is starting to get traction in both the homebrewing and craft brewing worlds as an aroma hop boasting unique tropical characteristics and the smooth, silky overall flavor characteristics.
This delicious dual-purpose variety that boasts a smooth, silky bittering profile due to the lower co-humulone levels, although few of the fruity and unique terpene characteristics come through in bittering additions.Â When used in late additions and dry hop additions, the unique hop complexity of Cashmere shines through with a variety incredible flavor.Â
Aroma and Flavor
As a late addition, whirlpool and dry hop, Cashmere shines with powerfully delicate melon, coconut and citrus notes with subtle hints of sweet lemon, lime, and a gentle citrus-pith characteristic.Â Depending on the hops that you pair it with, Cashmere will lend faint whispers of pineapple and a subtle coriander-like woody spice when added between 10 minutes and Flameout.
